Introduction

This Web Quest will provide an opportunity for you to review Newton’s Three Laws of Motion, explain how Newton’s Laws work to make amusement park rides so exciting.

 

Task

This project will require you to visit several websites and record your learning on the student sheets provided.  After you have worked through the tasks, you will be prepared to apply your understanding of these laws as you design, test, and evaluate your roller coaster.

Process

Go to: http://science.discovery.com/interactives/literacy/newton/newton.html

 

Click on "Law of Inertia" to begin and follow the direction on the webpage.

Use the Newton's Fun Park Graphic Organizer to keep track of your learning.  Don't forget to read "Newton's Bio" before you take the quiz.

 

Go to http://www.learner.org/interactives/parkphysics/bumpercars/

 

Read the directions and hit “Begin” when you are ready.  If you feel you need more review, please feel free to read “Newton’s Laws of Motion” on the site.

 

Read each scenario, draw a diagram that represents the story and then predict what will happen.  Run the simulation then record whether your prediction was correct or incorrect.  Explain why you were correct or incorrect.
